It's Getting Chilly in Here...Character Design Stuff!

Here's a few images of my character designs for a 30 second animation film (entitled "Fishing and Chips") that I've done in the past (last semester). I love turning around characters that I've designed. It's a good mental, visual and imaginative exercise; it's all about a person's understanding and perception of an object occupying space. Challenging but ultimately rewarding.

Ear Magic...or Chaos...?!

Here are some preliminary sketches for the second project for Bio-medical Rendering. I chose to illustrate the process of seasickness and how it disrupts our sense of balance. Hint: the cause lies within our ears!

Whoops! Late post! Well, here's another set of life drawings. This time, however, emphasis is on the female body form.

Life Drawing Series I

The clock's ticking, and I have to post something here quickly. Let's see...here are some quick life drawing sketches I've done in the past (emphasis is on quickness of drawing the male human body).

"Y" for YUMMY

Last Saturday, I got to eat at Seashore Chinese Restaurant at Torrance. As its name suggests, the restaurant specializes in serving Chinese food. I got to eat a certain amount of dishes, and boy were they good and delicious. I would give the restaurant a 4 out 5! The food they serve there is great...and it's better during lunchtime since there are discounts (it's like a happy hour for them). What dishes do I recommend? There are plenty! The diced beef house special is phenomenal. Another favorite dish of mine is the honey walnut shrimp. Another dish that ought to be tried is the Shanghai spare ribs. Furthermore, see if you can fall in love with their sesame chicken. I'm not done yet. Try their spicy with salt series: tofu, pork and squid. If  you have room for dessert (which I'm sure you will), try asking for some mango pudding. Good stuff...don't miss out! Look for the place's address on Yelp.com!

A drawing review for the restaurant; merely a quick sketch.

Of Hands and Alligators!

In the past, I've done some drawings of my hand. Without a doubt, the hand is one of the most difficult body parts to draw due to the seemingly limitless movements it can make. One helpful tip my father told me is that the thumb is a big part of the hand - for some odd reason, when I drew  hands in the past, they were distorted since I usually drew the thumb smaller than it was supposed to be. The thumb can be useful part to measure and compare the rest of one's fingers. Please let me know if you can see any distortions in my drawings! I'd love to know what I did wrong so I can keep in mind what to fix the next time I draw hands in the future!

Lastly, the following are my roughs for the Alligator project for Illustration class. I drew roughs for the following magazines: Time, Sports Illustrated and Omni. This was a really fun project; for the first time in a long time, I actually used Gouache paints for the final products! I never really was a fan of them before, but for some reason, I had fun using them for this project! It probably was due to experience from the previous Illustration class that I took two semesters ago. Learned the ups and downs of it! Alligators are fun to draw in terms of form and texture. Lastly, it was quite challenging to not use props! But that's what made the project so great and challenging. Mind stimulating. Anyways, here ya go!

Imagining Human Anatomy

Here are a few sketches regarding human anatomy. I didn't use any references for these sketches; I fully relied on my imagination and my knowledge of the shapes of the muscles and body parts I chose to draw. I tried using pen this time...and it was great. You don't have to worry about making mistakes - you're forced to acknowledge them! I find it faster to sketch in pen ink, too. Hatching with a pen is fun!
